  • Introduction to Wenzhou

    Wenzhou (originally called Ou) is the third city of Zhejiang Province. It has a history which goes back 2200 years. Now it is known as a national civilized city, a national sanitary city, a national garden city, and a national forest city as well as a state-list famous historical and cultural city. Wenzhou covers a land area of 12,065 km2, and sea area of 8649 km2. Its population is 9.18 million. In 2016, the GDP of Wenzhou reached 504.5 billion RMB. The city has unique natural sceneries. Tourist scenic spots take up one quarter of the citys land area, 60% of which is covered by forests. Wenzhou is the birthplace of Chinese scenic poetry, Nan Opera, and private economy. It is also renowned as the cradle of mathematicians in China. There are over 200 mathematicians and mathematics professors born in Wenzhou in the past 100 years, such as Su Buqing, Gu Chaohao, Jiang Lifu, and so on.


    Wenzhou is an important pioneer in the reform and opening-up of China, and a typical success of socialist theory with Chinese characteristics. Over 52 national and provincial reform pilot projects have been carried out in Wenzhou. As one of market economys birthplaces in China, the citys private economy is well developed, providing a strong foundation for various industries. Over 40 national manufacture bases have been established in Wenzhou, such as capital of electric appliance and capital of shoes in China. The city received many honorary titles, such as national model city of good quality”, national model city of intellectual property right, and so on. Wenzhou people are well known for their business methods, wisdom and philanthropy. There are 175 million Wenzhou people who started their business in China. There are 68 million Wenzhou business owners worldwide. They have built a network of business owners that covers the whole nation and links the world.


    Introduction to WZVTC


    Upon the approval of the Ministry of Education, Wenzhou Vocational & Technology College was founded through the amalgamation of Wenzhou Business School, Wenzhou School of Economics, Wenzhou Machinery Industrial School and Wenzhou Spare-time Technology University in 1999. Its history dates back to 1956. The college was funded by Wenzhou Municipal Government, and supervised by Zhejiang Department of Education. Now it is a national model of higher vocational college, a key higher vocational college in Zhejiang, an advanced organization of vocational education in China, and a pilot school of modern apprenticeship approved by the Ministry of Education. It is also a state-level maker space rated by the Ministry of Science and Education, one of the first batch of four-year vocational colleges, and a civilized organization of Zhejiang Province.   

    The college has three campuses: Chashan, Ruian, and Adult Traning. Chashan campus is located in the picturesque Wenzhou Higher Education Park. Ruian campus is located in Jiangnan New District, Wenzhou. The address of Chengjiao campus is Chezhan Avenue, Wenzhou. WZVTC takes up a total area of is 0.725 km2. Its building area is 354000 m2. The college has teaching equipment worth of 150 million RMB, a library collection of 1.08 million books. It has over 670 staff members, among which 216 people have sub-senior professional titles or above (including 39 professors and 8 master supervisors). At present, the college has about 10600 full-time students. The employment rate of its graduates has been over 98% in the last 12 years. The total rating of its graduates took the first place in 2013 and 2015 among other vocational schools in Zhejiang Province. WZVTC has won two first prize and one second prize of national teaching awards; it has also won five first prize of provincial teaching awards, and one second prize of humanity and social science awards given by the Ministry of Education. In the past five years, its students have won over 500 awards in provincial and national kill contests.

    The college has nine departments (such as Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Electrical and Electric Engineering) and 35 majors, which mainly consists of engineering-related majors. Design-related majors and majors in economics and management are also developed in a balanced way. At the moment, it has six national model majors, one reform pilot major of the Ministry of Education, two service-industry-related majors of the Ministry of Education, twenty-one provincial key/dominant/special majors, two national model training bases, one national teaching data base, seven national quality courses, and twenty-two provincial quality courses.
